The Caper Piwitschen scout group was officially founded on 11.4.1981, on the initiative of the then Mayor of Mamer, Mr René Federspiel, the FNEL Chief Commissioner, Mrs Liz Gondoin-Goedert and the FNEL Cub Commissioner, Mr Roland Gut. The first committee was chaired by Anita Reuter-Henkes, a former leader of the Campeuses bronzées.
The first committee of the new Caper Piwitschen scout group was set up as follows: Anita Reuter, President; Roland Gut, Secretary; Paul Haas, Treasurer; Maisy Hertges, Paulette Nicolay, Paul Nicolay, Pit Nicolas, Fernand Weiland, Members.
Right from the start, the new FNEL group experienced great growth. At the first meeting of the Wëllefcher (Cub Scouts) there were already 49 children from the Capellen area. The first facilities available to the Caper Piwitschen were 4 rooms on the top floor of the primary school in Capellen, 47 route d'Arlon. The group had its headquarters here until 1991, except in 1984 when the Caper Piwitschen had to hold their meetings in a H.M.C. workshop in Capellen because the school was being renovated.
1991, the Caper Piwitschen moved to the new Centre Culturel in Capellen. It was here that the group used 3 rooms in the basement of the centre.
Since 2003, we've been based in our Chalet behind the tennis courts in Capellen. Today, the group has over 150 active members and has grown steadily over the last few years. As well as providing scouting activities, we're also active on the social front. We're always ready to help out if our schedule allows.
